New Dundee United signing Tim Akinola says he can’t wait to get started at the club after initially thinking city rivals Dundee were trying to snap him up.

The 20-year-old midfielder has completed a deadline day loan move to Tannadice from Arsenal and could be pitched straight into action in Tuesday night’s derby.

But Akinola revealed that when he first heard of a potential move he thought it was that Dens Park side that wanted to recruit him.

“A few days ago my agent rang me and said ‘Dundee’s interested in you’,” he told DUTV.

“There’s two Dundees and I didn’t even ask him which one.

“I looked at the table and I thought it was the other one, not Dundee United. I was like, ‘they are a decent club’.

“Then I found out a day later it was Dundee United because he said their position and I thought ‘they’re not seventh’.

“Then obviously he told me it was Dundee United, so I thought it was a really good club and did my research and said ‘let’s get this moving forward’.”

Akinola, who can also play in defence, has made 12 appearances in Premier League 2 this season and has been training with the Arsenal first team on a regular basis.
