The FIFA World Cup Play-Off Final will be shown on free to air TV on Sunday June 5 on STV, following a deal with rights holders Sky.

The match will pit Wales against the winner of the Scotland v Ukraine semi-final, with a place at Qatar 2022 at stake.

Previous World Cup 2022 qualification games have been shown exclusively on Sky Sport but the rights-holders and STV have successfully concluded talks that will see the game shown free to air.

Bobby Hain, managing director of broadcast at STV, said: “After initiating discussions with Sky Sports and working closely with them to secure an agreement, we’re delighted that this potentially historic moment in Scottish international football will be available for everyone to watch for free on STV.

“There is of course a decisive fixture to come before then, but regardless of the result, it’s hugely exciting to have international football returning to STV next Sunday.”

Scotland finished as runners-up behind Denmark in their qualification group to reach the play-off stage. Steve Clarke’s side were scheduled to play Ukraine in March but the Russian invasion forced a postponement of the game.

The sides will now meet at Wednesday with the winner progressing to play Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium four days later.

The victor in the play-off final will go to the World Cup later this year where they have already been drawn to face England, USA and Iran in the group stage.
