Celtic have sold striker Hyeongyu Oh to Belgian side KRC Genk for an undisclosed fee.

The South Korean leaves the Premiership champions just 18 months after joining the club on a five-year contract.

Oh played 26 times for Celtic last season, scoring five times as the team won a league and cup double but has not done enough to convince manager Brendan Rodgers and his staff.

He now moves to the Cegeka Arena, where the 23-year-old aims to find regular football and continue his development.

“KRC Genk is a team that has a lot of experience in training young players,” Oh told the club’s official website. “When the interest became concrete, my choice was immediately clear. I can’t wait to show myself.”

“Hyeon-gyu is a striker with a nose for goals who is not afraid to make dirty metres as well, “Genk sporting director Dimitri de CondĆ© said. “He is a nimble player who also offers a solid presence in the box thanks to his stature.”

Celtic have yet to announce any major signings this summer but have been in negotiations to bring forward Adam Idah back to the club after an initial bid was rejected by Norwich City.

The champions are also looking for a goalkeeper following Joe Hart’s retirement, with veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel reportedly close to agreeing a deal.
