St Mirren have completed their fifth signing of the season after announcing the arrival of James Bolton on a one-year deal.
The defender picked up a League One winners medal with Plymouth Argyle last season and replaces Declan Gallagher, who joined Dundee United on Tuesday.
Bolton, 28, has also represented Shrewsbury Town and Portsmouth in the lower reaches of English football.
He follows forward trio Conor McMenamin, Mikael Mandron and Stav Nahmani and goalkeeper Zach Hemming through the door in Paisley this summer.
Manager Stephen Robinson praised Bolton’s versatility, adding he had chased the player for some time.
“He’ll bring a vast amount of experience and he’s a very good defender,” he told the club’s website.
“He gives us another option in there and adds to our numbers with Declan leaving. This was the reason we allowed this to happen because we knew we had someone else coming in.
“We need to get him up to speed, but he’s a fit boy. It’s another quality player in the building who will bring more experience into the dressing room and most of all he’s a very good defender.”
