St Mirren agree deal for young defender Murray Campbell to join Burnley SNS Group

Teenage St Mirren defender Murray Campbell has signed for English Premier League side Burnley.

The 17-year-old, who has captained the Scotland under-17 side and also been included in the under-18 and under-16 squads, will join the academy at Turf Moor.

Campbell was in and around Stephen Robinson’s first-team last season and made the bench in a number of occasions but has yet to have any game time in the Premiership

His contract at the Paisley club expired in the summer and he expressed his desire to move on.

On Thursday his move was to England was confirmed, with St Mirren receiving an undisclosed fee and add-ons including a future sell-on fee.

He is the second St Mirren youngster to make the move south this year following Dylan Reid’s move to Crystal Palace in January.

A statement said: “The club would have been due training compensation for the defender, however, we have come to an agreement with Burnley for an undisclosed fee with a potential for further add-ons and a future sell on fee.

“It’s a credit to the St Mirren Youth Academy that we have produced another talented young player that has moved on to the English Premier League following Dylan Reid’s move to Crystal Palace in January.

“We wish Murray the best of luck in his future career.”
