St Johnstone have announced they will name their main stand in honour of “heroic” former owner Geoff Brown.
The Perth club are planning a ceremony ahead of the first Premiership match of the season at home to Aberdeen next month to acclaim the local businessman, who spent 25 years as chairman between 1986 and 2011 and then handed the reins to his son Steve before the family sold the club to American lawyer Adam Webb this summer.
Brown will be named Life President of St Johnstone and the main stand at McDiarmid Park will be renamed the Geoff Brown Stand.
The club say they are indebted to Brown after he “planted the foundations for growth and provided the platform which allowed us all to savour unparalleled joy both on and off the field of play – including consistent top-flight success, European adventures and historic cup victories”.
New owner Webb told Saints’ website: “Geoff’s contribution to St Johnstone over 38 years has been nothing short of heroic.
“I hope that all supporters will make extra efforts to attend and bring family and friends along on August 5 for what should be a magical night at McDiarmid Park.”
