Scotland international Oli Burke has returned to Germany after signing a deal with newly-promoted Werder Bremen.
The 25-year-old became Scotland’s most expensive ever player when he left Nottingham Forest to join RB Leipzig for a £13m fee in August 2016, but managed just one goal in 26 appearances before returning to the UK with West Bromwich Albion.
He signed a permanent contract with Sheffield United in 2020 after loan spells at Celtic and Spanish side Alaves.
However his career in Yorkshire amounted to just 36 appearances and two goals and he spent last season with fellow Championship side Millwall.
He has earned 13 caps for the national side, scoring once in a Hampden victory over Cyprus, but has not played for over two years.
The German side, promoted as runners-up in the second tier last campaign, said he would join on an “undisclosed” deal subject to international clearance.
Burke will join his new teammates at a training camp in Austria ahead of the Bundesliga kick off at Wolfsburg on August 6.
