Robert MacIntyre is delighted to be “back home” as he aims for a victory in the Scottish Open to add to a successful year so far.

The golfing star won the Canadian Open title at the start of last month and how has sights firmly set on success at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick.

After falling just one shot short of eventual winner Rory McIlroy last year, the 27-year-old from Oban admits that Scottish glory is the one “he really wants”.

He also revealed that, despite having a base in Florida and being part of the Isleworth Golfing club in the sunshine state, he now plans to spend more time back in home in Scotland where he is treated as “one of the boys”.

Speaking on Wednesday he said: “It’s great to be home and back in Scotland at any time, whether that’s just a trip back home or just landing in Scotland, but playing at home is always special and it always will be.

“Hopefully that’s all the bad weather out the way yesterday and I am looking forward to the next two weeks.

“This has probably been the most calm I’ve been coming into it, it’s not been as frantic and things have been under control. Yes my game has been up and down but it’s been up and down my whole golfing life but this is the one, as a Scot, that I really want.

“There is so much that goes into winning here, last year I came really close but who knows I might not get another opportunity like that in my career playing golf, so I’ve just got to try and play it like another event and give it my absolute best which I will do.

“When I go back to Oban I usually don’t play a lot of golf, I have this time be it on the simulator or out on the course, but I just find that I get brought back down to earth.

“Yeah I play golf and I’m on TV quite a bit, but when I go back to Oban I get treated as Bob and one of the boys. I don’t get treated like Robert MacIntyre the golfer and that’s the way it should be because I sometimes think that people can be put too much on a pedestal.

“When I go back home I don’t go out much, if at all, but I spend time with friends and family and that’s what’s important.

“My rent (in Florida) is up on August 30 and I don’t think it will be getting renewed after that to be honest, Scotland is my home, yes I’ve joined Isleworth and that will always be a place I go to practice in the winter but America is not my home, Scotland is where I want to be.”
