Scott Wright is set to complete a deadline day move to Rangers after the Ibrox side and Aberdeen reached agreement on an immediate transfer.

Wright had already signed a pre-contract agreement to move to Steven Gerrard’s side in the summer when his Dons deal expired and he looked like he would play out the remainder of the season in Derek McInnes’ side.

Negotiations on Monday between the teams were productive and Wright is now travelling to Glasgow to complete a move before the deadline and allow him to start his Rangers career sooner rather than later. STV understands the clubs settled on a £150,000 fee with Wright to sign a four-and-a-half year contract.

The 23-year-old has made 80 first-team appearances for Aberdeen since making his debut at the age of 16. He also scored three goals in 13 loan appearances for Dundee in the first half of 2019.

After signing the attacker on the pre-contract deal, Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson said: “

We look forward to Scott joining Rangers and we are excited to see him continue to develop his talent working with Steven and all of our staff.

“Scott fits our football identity and our plan for the development of our squad.

“Adding Scott, as a young Scottish player, who will continue to enhance his talent here, is part of our plan.

“I’ve enjoyed all of our conversations and we can see that Scott is a very humble young man who is both determined and excited to be part of what we are building here at Rangers.
