Calvin Bassey has completed his move from Rangers to Ajax with the Ibrox club receiving a club record fee of around £20m.

The Nigeria international moves to the Dutch club after two years at Rangers, having moved to Glasgow for just a training compensation fee.

Ajax have confirmed that Bassey has signed a five-year contract, with the club paying €23m (£19.58m) rising to €26.5m (£22.5m) including potential add-ons.

The move caps a fast rise for Bassey who only became a regular first choice player over the last season and played a key role in the run to the Europa League final.

The 22-year-old made 65 appearances in total for Rangers and won a Premiership title and Scottish Cup in addition to the runners-up medal from the Europa League.

Bassey’s departure follows the sale of Joe Aribo and Cedric Itten this summer, with Leon Balogun also leaving the club.

Malik Tillman, Tom Lawrence, Antonio Colak, Rabbi Matondo and John Souttar have already joined Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad, with the club confirming the singing of defender Ben Davies from Liverpool the day before the Bassey deal was completed.
