Giovanni van Bronckhorst is hoping he will be able to add Ridvan Yilmaz to his squad this week as the Turkey left-back closes in on a move to Ibrox.
Besiktas had confirmed that the clubs were in negotiations over the transfer of the defender with a fee of around £5m being reported for the 21-year-old.
Van Bronckhorst was asked about the deal following Rangers’ 2-1 friendly defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and said the club was hopeful a deal would be finalised in the coming days.
“We’re trying to add more quality to the squad,” he told Sky Sports. “We are really busy to get another player in.
“We have seen all the reports but once he is a Rangers player we will announce. Hopefully this week we can have a new player.”
The is expected to be more good news for Rangers fans as the manager also said that a contract extension for club captain James Tavernier was to be announced.
“We signed a lot of new players this season but we also know it is key to extend players who are in the core group.
“(Connor) Goldson just signed a new contract and Tav as well at the moment, so that’s very good for the mix we have.”
Rangers begin their Premiership campaign next Saturday against Livingston and face Union Saint-Galloise in their first Champions League qualifier the following Tuesday.
