Rangers have lost 2-1 to Aris Limassol in their Europa League group stage match in Cyprus.

Steven Davis was taking charge of the team for the first time since being made interim boss in the wake of Michael Beale’s sacking but he saw Rangers deservedly beaten by an energetic Aris side.

The hosts went ahead after nine minutes when Alex Moucketou-Moussounda scored with a powerful header from Leo Bengtsson’s cross.

Aris then doubled their lead after an hour’s play, with Bengtsson setting up Shavy Babicka to score with a well-struck first-time shot.

Rangers pulled a goal back through Abdallah Sima with 20 minutes to go but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

With Real Betis defeating Sparta Prague 2-1 in the other game in the section, all four sides are now on three points. Rangers sit third on goal difference.
