Rangers have moved into top spot in the Scottish Women’s Premier League after ending Celtic’s 100% winning start with victory in the first Old Firm game of the season.
Jo Potter’s side came back from a goal-down to take all three points at the Excelsior stadium in Airdrie in what was her first experience of the derby.
Both teams went into the game unbeaten in the SWPL with Celtic recording ten wins out of ten and Rangers having nine wins and a draw.
And they also both had their eye on being top of the league when it stops for the international break with the Hoops two points ahead at kick-off.
And Rangers leapfrogged their city rivals with the hard fought victory on Sunday.
After a bit of a quiet first 45 minutes with few chances falling to either side, the game sprung to life after the break.
Caitlin Hayes opened the scoring for the Hoops early in the second-half when she rose highest to win a header from a corner and powered it beyond Jenna Fife.
But just after the hour mark teenager Kirsty MacLean levelled the scores when she made it 1-1 with a nice finish past Celtic keeper Daugherty.
And with ten minutes left on the clock Rangers hot themselves in front when Rio Hardy grabbed the third goal of the game to make it 2-1.
Potter’s side now go a point ahead at the top of the league.
