Rangers have signed Jose Cifuentes on a pre-contract to join the club at the end of this year, but remain keen to get the midfielder in this window.
Michael Beale confirmed an agreement was in place for the Los Angeles FC midfielder that will see him move to Ibrox when his contract with the MLS side expires in December.
But the manager stressed they are still trying to put together a package that will see the 24-year-old Ecuador international move to Glasgow for the start of the Premiership season.
Speaking to Sky Sports News on Friday, he said: “The clubs are still talking, he is out of contract at the end of the year and we have an agreement for that, but we would like to bring it to a close earlier if we can so he can join us in this window.
“Those are discussions that remain ongoing.”
The Ibrox side have also been heavily linked with a move for Brazilian forward Danilo from Dutch side Feyenoord and Beale admits he is a player that they are interested in.
He said: “There’s talks in the background but he’s a Feyenoord player just now and they are also building after a really successful season last year.
“We’ll keep that between the two clubs at the moment. He’s obviously a good player.
“The recruitment both ways – in and out – isn’t finished right now so the squad will come together.
“It’s important we maintain quiet and keep doing our work in building this team.
“There’s a lot of speculation around one or two names and I don’t know why that has gathered so much pace because they’re a little way off just yet and are not the only names we’re looking at.”
