Clement confident of 'amazing season' if Rangers keep up recent form

Rangers will go top of the league with a victory at Celtic Park if they win their three games before then.

Philippe Clement is confident that Rangers can have an “amazing season” if they keep doing the right things and continue their recent form.

The Ibrox men lifted the first available silverware of the campaign by defeating Aberdeen in the League Cup final on Sunday that also marked the Belgian’s 14th game unbeaten since replacing Michael Beale in October.

Rangers are still fighting on three-fronts as they look to make it a memorable season despite a difficult start under the former boss.

They are five points behind Celtic at the top of the league but have two games in hand, starting with St Johnstone on Wednesday, and know if they win their next three games then they could go top with a victory at Celtic Park on December 30.

Their Scottish Cup campaign then begins after the winter break with a trip to Dumbarton on January 20 before they get back to Europa League action with a place in the last-16 secured with the 3-2 win at Real Betis last week.

Clement is delighted with the performances from his players so far and the former Monaco, Genk and Club Brugge boss, who won three consecutive titles in Belgium, is confident they are capable of bringing even more success.

Speaking to the media ahead of their game against Craig Levein’s side at Ibrox he said: “Every experience with this group will make our confidence stronger.

“If we keep the hunger, and solidarity we will make it an amazing season. I am confident in that.

“I am most happy as the players have made the biggest change. The energy in the changing room, the belief and the fighting spirit have changed since coming in.

“We need to focus on what we can control and that is what we will do until the end of the season.”

The 49-year-old enjoyed the celebrations on Sunday after James Tavernier’s strike helped them secure the win at Hampden.

He said: “Nothing is as nice as being on the pitch with the players on Sunday.

“I really enjoyed celebrating with the fans. I didn’t celebrate enough when I was a player but I need to do it more and the fans were great.”
