Neil Fachie wins gold in Men’s B Para-Cycle 1km Track at Cycling World Championships SNS Group

Neil Fachie has won the gold medal in the Men’s Para-Cycle 1km Track.

The Aberdonian becomes the second Scot to win gold at the ICU Cycling World Championships following on from Jenny Holl’s on Thursday.

Fachie took the top prize at the competition held at the Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow on Friday when he teamed up with Matt Rotherham.

The due pipped fellow Team GB members by four hundredths of a second.

The 39-year-old add the gold medal to the five he has won for Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games.

It is Team GB’s first rainbow jersey of the day.

Para-cyclist Holl became the first Scot to win gold at the UCI World Cycling Championship when she joined Sophie Unwin.

They recorded a win in the women’s B 1km time-trial when they clocked a time of 1:08.302 to beat the Australian pair by 0.06 seconds and win the rainbow stripes.
