Motherwell hoping to use Celtic draw as catalyst to end winless run

The Steelmen are 11 games without a win but will take hope from a draw at the champions.

Motherwell are hoping to use last weekend’s draw at Celtic Park as a catalyst to end their ten game winless run when they host Dundee at Fir Park this weekend.

Jonathan Obika scored a dramatic late equaliser against the league leaders to secure a 1-1 draw in Glasgow on Saturday.

But they still haven’t won a game since the 1-0 defeat of Hearts at the start of September.

Stuart Kettlewell is now looking to use the confidence of getting a point at the home of the champions to help them back to winning ways and start to climb up the table.

The Steelmen are currently in ninth place as they prepare for the visit of Tony Docherty’s side who are four points ahead in seventh.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Kettlewell said: “You always go into a game trying to win, we didn’t go there just looking to take a point from the game, but sometimes there are scenarios when you play against such a good side on their home patch then it becomes a very good point, and there’s no question that is the case when you go to Celtic.

“I spoke after the game, and I’m still very consistent with this, that it shows an unbelievable togetherness that we have in the group and the players are still very much trying to work towards fulfilling what they possibly can at this football club and win as many points as possible.

“We now just have to use that as a catalyst, that it is a real positive result and a real strong defensive performance from us. We understand that our ball possession was low and we knew that was going to be the case.

“We want to keep that same defensive performance and concentration but go and try add a little bit of that, especially playing at home. We need to go and make sure that we carry more of a threat more consistently during the game than we had at Celtic Park.

“We just have to make sure that we can add the layers on this week by creating more chances and put pressure on ourselves to convert those chances when they come.”
