Celtic legend Johann Mjallby believes his former side has the momentum and more matchwinners on their side as they look to complete a league and cup double this weekend.
The Premiership champions will come up against Rangers at Hampden in the first Old Firm Scottish Cup final in 22 years on Saturday.
Both sides are looking to lift their second piece of silverware of the season with Philippe Clement’s men looking to add to their League Cup win.
But Mjallby, who won two Scottish Cups during a five-year spell with the Hoops, insists Brendan Rodgers has the players that can be the difference at the national stadium.
Celtic have won three and drawn one of the four meetings meetings between Glasgow’s big two this season and will go into the game as favourites after hitting top-form at just the right time to secure their third title in a row.
And the former Sweden international says that is proof of their credentials as champions and why they will still be hungry to take the chance to become heroes again.
Speaking on Tuesday, he said: “Celtic probably have the momentum coming into the game, if you look at the results between the two this season, obviously they had a bit of a wobble as well a while back but in the last two months they have really hit top form and they played their best football when it mattered.
“And that is the proof that they are true champions.
“So I think there’s probably more pressure on Rangers to get their tactics perfect on the day, because Celtic have had a lot of success in the Old Firm games this season and they very seldom change the way they play the game and they have had success so why would they?
“They have the confidence and the momentum, so I think Rangers will have to make sure they get their tactics right to give them a chance of winning the final.
“Celtic definitely have (the psychological edge over Rangers), there’s no question about that, but this is a one off game so it’s going to be a wee bit different.
“They should come into the final with a lot of confidence, they have already won the league and they seem to be in top form just now.
“They have a bit more momentum than Rangers and I personally think they have more matchwinners.
“It’s a brilliant chance to bring home another trophy, and a chance to make yourself and the supporters happy.
“So the players should be excited to play in a massive final like this, it’s a brilliant opportunity to become a hero again.”
