League Cup roundup: Wins for Hibs and Dundee United on matchday two

Premiership sides Hibernian, Dundee United, Dundee have all won their second group games in the League Cup campaign.

But Motherwell have been held to a 1-1 draw by League One club Montrose before winning on penalties for the bonus point.

All Scottish league teams other than the five top-flight sides in Europe are taking part in the group stage of the competition on the road to Hampden with the first trophy of the season on the line.

Hibernian made it two wins from two with a comfortable victory over Queen’s Park at Easter Road on Tuesday.

Dundee also continued their winning start with a 2-0 victory over third-tier Arbroath.

Newly promoted Dundee United bounced back from their opening game defeat to Falkirk and got back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Stenhousemuir.

Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Kilmarnock and St Mirren will all enter the tournament in the second round.

Rangers took the trophy back to Ibrox last season with a win over Aberdeen in the final.

The Dons got their campaign underway with a 3-0 win over Queen of the South as did St Johnstone and Ross County but neither side were in action in Tuesday’s fixtures.

Hibs beat the Spiders 5-1 with goals from Warren O’Hora, Rudi Moltkinov, Dylann Levitt and a double from Martin Boyle.

Shane Blaney looked like he had handed Motherwell all three points before a late equaliser from Ali Shrive earned a draw for Montrose but the Steelmen earned a bonus point with a shootout victory.

Luke McCowan and Ethan Ingram were both on target for Dundee as they made it two wins from two with Louis Moult, Declan Gallagher and Kristijan Trapanovski all on target for Dundee’s city rivals United in their 3-0 win.
