Robbie Deas believes this could be a “great” season for Kilmarnock but will not look past Motherwell on Saturday.

The Rugby Park outfit have had a stunning start to 2023-24 with a cinch Premiership win over Rangers, a goalless draw away to Hearts and a Viaplay Cup victory over treble-winners Celtic last weekend.

Looking ahead to the trip to Fir Park, central defender Deas, who joined Derek McInnes’ side from Inverness in June, said: “You can’t really ask for much more than to have three clean sheets against the three teams we have played against.

“I think it just shows you what we’re capable of. And I think we need to believe that we can go on and do good things, great things this year.

“We’ve obviously got through the League Cup now and we have Hearts at home and we’ve got Motherwell away this Saturday which is going to be a tough task.

“But the most important thing now is Motherwell away, to continue the form in the league, that is the most important thing before we can think of anything else.

“Motherwell had a really good start to the season and it is the most important game because it’s the next game, and it’s not going to be easy.”

Deas has grabbed his opportunity under McInnes and his new-look team with both hands and admits he is enjoying top-flight football.

He said: “To be playing at Kilmarnock is huge and to be doing it on the big stage, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“(I’m) just thriving on the challenge of playing against these teams. We’ve obviously played against Celtic, Rangers and Hearts now and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

“He’s given me a chance to play and it is up to me to take that opportunity.

“I’ve been in quite a few changing rooms and this is one of the best changing rooms I’ve been in.

“The boys are brilliant, they want to work with each other, they want to work hard and I think that you can see that on the park that we want to fight for each other and get behind each other, which is massive.”
