Kieran Tierney has been left out of the Scotland squad for next month’s World Cup play-offs and Nations League fixtures.

The Arsenal defender is still recovering from knee surgery and has been sidelined since the end of March.

Nathan Patterson has made Steve Clarke’s 28-man pool, however, as he steps up his recovery from an ankle operation.

Scotland face Ukraine on June 1 in the World Cup play-off semi-final in what is the first of potentially five matches in the first half of the month.

Victory over Ukraine would set up a final match in Cardiff against Wales to decide which team will head to the tournament in Qatar later this year.

Three Nations League matches follow after that, with two fixtures against Armenia either side of a contest against Republic of Ireland.

Uncapped striker Ross Stewart has kept his place in the squad after scoring a crucial goal at Wembley as Sunderland secured promotion to the Championship.
