Josh Taylor’s world title defence in Glasgow postponed

Josh Taylor’s world title fight against Apinun Khongsong has been called off, becoming the latest major sporting event to be postponed because of the coronavirus crisis.

Taylor was set to make his first title defence since becoming unified world champion when he stepped into the ring at Glasgow’s Hydro in May.

In a statement on FrankWarren.com, promoters Queensberry said: “World champion Josh Taylor’s homecoming, scheduled for May 2 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow will no longer take place on this date.

“Refunds are available from the point of purchase. We are currently working with the SSE Hydro, Top Rank and MTK Global to identify a suitable alternative date to reschedule the event for the Scottish fans.”

The Prestonpans fighter added the WBA and Ring Magazine belts to his collection when he defeated Regis Prograis in October.

A win over Khongsong, who is undefeated with 13 knockouts from 16 fights, would set up a fight with WBO and WBC champion Jose Ramirez to become undisputed super-lightweight champion.
