Blackburn Rovers have made an offer to sign Hibernian star Ryan Porteous.
Jon Dahl Tomasson, who is manager of the English Championship side, confirmed on Thursday that they were interested in signing the Scotland international.
But the Norwegian admits he faces stiff competition for the 23-year-old with Udinese and Watford also interested.
The defender, who made his Scotland debut against Ukraine at the end of last year, is out of contract in the summer so free to negotiate pre-contract terms with potential suitors.
However if any team wants to sign him in January then they will have to pay a fee to Hibs if the Edinburgh club decide to cash in.
Manager Lee Johnson recently expressed confidence that the centre-back would still be at the club for Sunday’s Edinburgh derby against Hearts in the Scottish Cup.
Tomasson told the Lancashire Telegraph: “We have made an offer, yes.
“We’re still waiting for the situation (to resolve) and that’s what we’re waiting for.
“In an ideal world you get all the players into the building, but it’s quite tough to attract all the players you want when the competition is extremely difficult.”
