Jamie Murray has missed out on the chance to make history with an eighth grand slam win after a defeat in the Australian Open mixed doubles final.
On Saturday Murray and team mate Bethanie Mattek-Sands lost to Croatian pair Nikola Mektic and Barbora Krejcikov 5-7 6-4 10-1.
The 33-year-old Scot would have become the first British player in history to have won eight titles if he had been successful in Melbourne.
He has previously won mixed doubles title at 2007 Wimbledon in 2007 and 2017 and three US Opens and in men’s doubles he was victorious at the 2016 Australian Open and 2016 US Open.
Murray now remains tied with Virgina Wade with seven majors in the open era.
