Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett's slam streak ends with Wimbledon defeat

The bid for an 11th consecutive title came to an end in the doubles final.

Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett’s bid to win an 11th consecutive grand slam wheelchair doubles title ended in defeat at Wimbledon.

The Scot and his partner Hewett were beaten 6-3 6-1 by second seeds Gustavo Fernandez and Shingo Kuneida on Court Three.

Reid’s Wimbledon is over but Hewett will play Kuneida in the mens’ singles final on Sunday and he said it was “challenging” to play the doubles final after bearing Fernandez in his singles semi-final late on Friday.

“We can’t take anything away from these guys, they’ve been desperate to beat us for some time now,” he said.

“Yesterday was a massive day for myself, an incredible day that I’ll always remember, so today was challenging to go again. But we’ll be back next year.”
