Celtic have named a former English Premier League coach as the boss of their now-professional women’s team.
Fran Alonso, who worked with Everton and Southampton, has joined the club from Lewes FC Women in England.
He replaces Eddie Wolecki Black, who left Celtic shortly before the women’s team turned pro last month.
Alonso said: “When Celtic want you, you can’t say no. It is one of the world’s truly great football clubs and one I know which has made a huge commitment to developing its women’s team.”
The Spaniard was a first-team assistant coach under manager Ronald Koeman at Everton and worked as technical coach with Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton.
