Edinburgh Rugby’s pre-season friendly against London Scottish was abandoned after an “emergency situation”.

The visitors were leading 34-26 at the DAM Health Stadium when the game was halted and a recorded announcement played over the tannoy following the sounding of an alarm.

Both sides congregated together on the field while supporters were ushered to the car park prior to the match being officially called off.

The nature of the emergency is unknown.

An Edinburgh Rugby statement read: “Tonight’s match has been abandoned on health and safety grounds.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, thank fans for their patience and wish all supporters a safe journey home.

“The match ends 26-34.”
