Edinburgh City have been hit with a six-point deduction after admitting breaking SPFL rules.
The club was disciplined by the SPFL after the League One side’s squad failed to receive their November wages on time and in full.
City failed to advise the league body that payment hadn’t been made and also breached the rules by not informing the SPFL that they had been in default of their tax obligations to HMRC.
An SPFL tribunal also found that the club had failed to engage properly with the disciplinary process and handed down a six-point deduction that takes effect immediately.
An SPFL spokesperson said: “The payment of players’ wages, and the tax default and reporting rules, are integral parts of maintaining a fair league competition.”
Edinburgh City were already at the foot of the League One table before the deduction and are now 9 points adrift of ninth-placed Annan Athletic.
