Dundee’s game against Rangers could be moved to an alternative venue if the pitch fails another inspection next week.

The fixture has now been postponed twice due to a waterlogged playing surface at Dens Park following the latest call-off on Wednesday.

It has now been rescheduled for April 17 but the SPFL has now confirmed that if that can’t take place then the match will be moved elsewhere.

Dundee have already had five home games postponed this season amid ongoing concerns about their pitch and heavy rainfall in the area.

On Thursday a spokesperson for the SPFL said: “We confirmed yesterday that the Dundee v Rangers game is rescheduled for 8pm on Wednesday April 17 at Dens Park, live on Sky Sports.

“We have been in extensive discussions with both clubs about arrangements if, for whatever reason, the match cannot be played at Dens Park on Wednesday. These include the possibility of the match moving to an alternative venue.

“We will confirm these arrangements as soon as possible, and well in advance of Wednesday’s match.”

Dundee are still fighting for a top-six place and it could potentially come down to next week, after the rest of the league have completed their pre-split fixtures, to decide if they make the cut.

Meanwhile treble-chasing Rangers remain one point behind league leaders Celtic going into this weekend when they will play Ross County.

But Philippe Clement’s men also still have a game in hand over their city rivals.
