Dundee have made a bid to sign Leigh Griffiths on loan and have been in discussions with Celtic to complete a deal before the transfer deadline.

Griffiths signed a new one-year deal at Parkhead this summer but is yet to play under new manager Ange Postecoglou and it’s believed that an agreement can be struck to see the striker switch to Dens Park.

Several clubs have been linked with moves for Griffiths after his Celtic career has stalled over the last two years but the 31-year-old seemed set on a stay in Glasgow after signing his new contract.

Now, he could return to the club where he played from 2009 to 2011 before making a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Dundee boss McPake and his assistant Dave Mackay played with Griffiths at Livingston at the beginning of his career, while McPake was Hibs captain during the striker’s prolific spell at Easter Road.

Griffiths’ road back to the first team at Celtic looks unlikely and a move that guarantees regular football could be finalised in the next few days.
