Livingston manager David Martindale believes Kilmarnock are looking more and more like a Derek McInnes team as he prepares to face a respected foe.

McInnes clinched promotion and consolidated Killie’s place back in the Premiership in his first 18 months in Ayrshire and Martindale recognises more aspects of the former Aberdeen manager’s tactics as his spell at Rugby Park continues.

Ahead of Saturday’s meeting in Ayrshire, Martindale said: “I think Derek is one of the best managers in Scotland and there is a reflection on the park because of that.

“He has a structure and philosophy, and you are now probably seeing more of an imprint in terms of it’s Del’s team. He has had a couple of windows to bring players in he is looking for.

“I played against his Aberdeen teams and found them hugely frustrating at times.

“He has had that bit of budget to allow him to bring better quality players at the top end of the park.

“He knows Scottish football inside out, he has played at a very, very good level and you can see that.

“His teams are always well coached, difficult to break down but pose an attacking threat, and I think you can see that in this Kilmarnock team.”
