Christian Doidge has no intention of leaving Hibernian this month after hitting two goals in his first two starts of the season.

Doidge was sent out on loan early in Lee Johnson’s tenure and spent most of last season with Kilmarnock.

The Welsh striker started on the bench in Hibernian’s European opener in Andorra as Elias Melkersen and Adam Le Fondre started up front but he made a difference when he came on in the first-leg defeat against Inter d’Escaldes.

The 30-year-old scored an overhead kick in the second-leg win and an equaliser in their cinch Premiership opener against St Mirren on Sunday before Hibs fell to a late 3-2 defeat.

Doidge, who is in the final year of his contract, said: “I’ve really enjoyed being back. I love playing for this football club.

“I’ve obviously started the first league game and played 45 minutes and 90 minutes in Europe, so I don’t think there’s any reason to leave, to be honest.”

Doidge did not agree that he had proved his worth to the manager.

“I wouldn’t say that,” he said. “I’ve still got plenty to do. Obviously I want to prove a lot of people wrong every single day I’m training or playing.

“It’s not really about that. I’m just trying to play well and help Hibs to be as good as they can be.”
