Chris Cadden: Playing for Scotland is pinnacle of your career

The Hibernian right-back is focusing on his club form ahead of the Euros.

Chris Cadden wants to make a Scotland return with the national team facing a potential injury crisis – but insists his full focus is only on his form for his club.

The Hibernian right-back returned from a ruptured Achilles tendon in March and has reclaimed his place in the starting line-up.

National team boss Steve Clarke may have a selection headache at wing back with Everton’s Nathan Patterson and Aaron Hickey of Brentford battling injury ahead of the Euros in June.

Cadden, 27, has two Scotland caps and has been touted as a potential call-up should Patterson and Hickey fail to recover in time to play at the tournament in Germany.

Cadden said: “I haven’t heard anything. I’m coming back from injury and I have things to focus on with Hibs.

“I am going to go out there and try and hard as I possibly can, Euros or not.

“It doesn’t give me an extra edge or anything like that – I think that would be disrespectful to Hibs, my manager and my teammates.

“That’s just in my make-up, that’s who I like to think I am. I will go out and do the best I can for Hibs, as I have done my whole career, and see where it takes me.”

Cadden represented Scotland at under-21 level 12 times and earned both his full caps in summer friendlies away to Peru and Mexico in 2018.

He admitted that ending the wait to add to that tally is a dream he has never given up on.

The former Motherwell Academy graduate said: “I was brought up that [playing for] Scotland was the pinnacle of your career – that’s where you want to be.

“I will always have aspirations to play for Scotland, no matter how close or far away I am.

“When you are in and about Scotland squads that is when you know you are doing alright.

“With the Scotland under-21s I absolutely loved going and representing my country.”
