Celtic have reached the play-off round of the Europa League after beating Riga 1-0 in Latvia but Motherwell are out after losing in Israel.

The Scottish champions looked to be heading to extra time against Riga before substitute Mohamed Elyounoussi struck in the 90th minute. The attacker found space to sweep the ball home after Jeremie Frimpong crossed from the right.

Celtic now go on to play FK Sarajevo in next week’s one-legged play-off tie with a place in the group stage of the competition at stake.

However, Motherwell’s European run has come to an end as they lost 3-0 to Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Israel.

The Steelmen had defeated Glentoran and Coleraine to reach the third round but found a step up in quality.

Hapoel took the lead just before half time when Leonardo Vitor headed in from a free kick. Motherwell’s hopes of getting back into the game were dashed in the 70th minute when Declan Gallagher was sent off and Josue scored from the resulting penalty.

The Israelis put the result beyond doubt with a third from Acolatse eight minutes before time.
