Celtic have signed Australian international Aaron Mooy and German defender Moritz Jenz, adding to Ange Postecoglou’s squad ahead of the new season.
Mooy was a free agent after leaving Chinese side Shanghai Port and has agreed a move to join his countryman Postecoglou at the Scottish champions. The Australian has signed a two-year contract.
Jenz moves to Glasgow after a one-year loan was agreed with Lorient.
The summer signings will now look to help their new side with their title defence and in the upcoming Champions League campaign.
Mooy, who has 52 caps for his country, will add to his manager’s options in midfield after the departure of Tom Rogic at the end of last season.
The move marks a return to Scotland for the experienced midfielder after a spell playing for St Mirren more than a decade ago.
After leaving Paisley in 2012, he returned to Western Sydney Wanderers and then played for Melbourne City before a surprise move to Manchester City in 2016.
Mooy failed to break into the first team at the Etihad and moved to Huddersfield Town, then played for Brighton before his move to Shanghai.
Jenz spent five years at Fulham as a youth before moving to Lausanne in 2020 but spent just one season in Switzerland before being snapped up by Lorient, who gave the player a five-year deal last summer.
The 23-year-old will now compete with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Stephen Welsh and Osaze Urhoghide for a place in the Celtic defence.
Postecoglou said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring in both Aaron and Moritz to the club, and I’m sure they’ll be great additions to our squad.
“I obviously know Aaron from my time coaching the Australian national team, and he brings with him a wealth of experience at both club and international level.
“Moritz is a player we’ve been aware for a while now, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to sign him.
“They’ve already had the chance to meet the rest of the squad, and I’m sure they’ll settle in very quickly into what is a very welcoming group of players, and I know that our supporters will be looking forward to seeing them both in a Celtic jersey.”
