Celtic captain Callum McGregor has trained with the squad as he continues his comeback from injury ahead of their visit to Ibrox.

The 30-year-old has been out for just over a month after picking up a knock in the 7-1 win over Dundee at the end of February.

He is now in line for a potential return to action when the Hoops take on Rangers in the top of the table clash.

The champions currently sit at the top of the Premiership, but are only a single point ahead of their city-rivals who also have a game in hand.

So that means this weekend’s Old Firm fixture could go a long way to deciding who will be lifting the trophy in May, with the sides set to meet again after the split.

The sight of the inspirational skipper back fit will represent a major boost to Celtic fans ahead of the game that will be played in front of 50,000 Rangers fans and no away support.

McGregor has missed four games for Brendan Rodgers’ side, including a 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle, and was also out for Scotland’s two friendly defeats to The Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

Rodgers will speak to the media later on Friday when he is expected to confirm if the midfielder will be part of his squad for the trip across the city.
