Cameron Norrie has beaten Joao Sousa to reach the third round of the US Open, and helped make tennis history in the process.
Norrie not only follows fellow Scot Andy Murray into the next stage but with Jack Draper and Dan Evans winning their matches, there are four British players in the third round for the first time in history.
The seventh seed continued his fine form in 2022, getting past Sousa with few difficulties.
The Scot has to save a set point a 5-6 in the third set but came through to win 6-4 6-4 7-6.
That sets up a third round meeting with Dane Holger Rune.
He said: “I thought I didn’t start that well. I was pretty nervous in the match, pretty tight. I managed to play good in the big points throughout the whole match. Felt like at the end of the sets I really raised my level.
“But, for whatever reason, I was just nervous, pretty slow with my feet the beginning of the sets. But happy to be through.”
