Thelin: Miovski ‘giving everything’ amid transfer speculation

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin praised Bojan Miovski for “giving everything” after the in-demand striker made his first appearance of the season in a 2-1 win over Airdrie.

The North Macedonia striker came off the bench at half-time with the Dons trailing to Ben Wilson’s goal and Aberdeen went on to seal their third Premier Sports Cup win of the group stage thanks to goals from Graeme Shinnie and Leighton Clarkson.

Miovski has been the subject of speculation linking him with potential transfers to Serie A in particular and did not feature in the opening two matches.

Thelin is taking the forward’s situation as it comes but was delighted with his contribution against the Diamonds.

“So far, we focus on the next training and the next game,” Thelin told Red TV. “We take it day by day. He was ready to play and he showed on the pitch that he was giving everything for Aberdeen, the club and the fans.

“He’s an amazing player. He is clever in the pressing and connects with other players in our build-up. He’s a top player.”

The Swede was pleased with his side’s response after an impressive first-half showing from Rhys McCabe’s William Hill Championship side.

“Airdrie were really good in the first half,” Thelin said. “We were a little wrong in our positions and late in situations and they could switch us too much.

“But the good thing is how we reacted at half-time, how we prepared ourselves and came out with a lot more energy and power in our press, more intensity in our transitions and how we attacked the goal.

“We did really, really well in the second half. It was a tough game but the team found a way to win.”
