Former England youth goalkeeper Angus Gunn has committed his international future to Scotland after Fifa backed his request to switch allegiances.

The 27-year-old Norwich City stopper is expected to follow in the footsteps of dad Bryan later this month after he is named in Steve Clarke’s squad for the Hampden double header against Cyprus in Spain after the governing body ratified the change.

Gunn, who has also represented Southampton and Stoke City after coming through the Manchester City academy, has played for England up to under 21 level, where he earned 12 caps.

The keeper will battle Hearts’ Zander Clark and Motherwell’s Liam Kelly for the number one jersey following Craig Gordon’s double leg break in December.

He previously turned down the chance to join the Scotland camp in 2018 having been called into a training squad by England boss Gareth Southgate ahead of the World Cup.

But he told BBC Radio Norfolk “positive meetings” with Clarke and SFA bosses earlier this year had led to change of heart.

“I’ve changed allegiances, exciting times for me,” he said.

“I’m available and hopefully I can get in the squad.

“People have talked about it before but I don’t think I’d been playing regularly enough to warrant a call up with Scotland or England.

“It’s a time in my career when I want to playing lots of games. I want to push myself and get that consistency.”

Scotland kick off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign against Cyprus on March 25 before Spain come calling three days later.

Clarke is expected to announce his squad for the fixtures later this week.
