Giovanni van Bronckhorst has given Alfredo Morelos the nod to start for Rangers against Liverpool in the Champions League, and named Leon King in defence as he looks to spring a surprise at Anfield.

The Rangers boss had a decision to make with Antonio Colak in goalscoring form and only one place up front in his system. He’s opted for Colombian forward Morelos against Jurgen Klopp’s side and hopes his decision will be vindicated with a performance to remember from the club’s record European goalscorer.

James Sands’ suspension means teenage centre-back King starts alongside Connor Goldson and Ben Davies in the heart of the defence against a stellar Liverpool attack.

Allan McGregor starts in goal for Rangers , with Borna Barisic at left-back, James Tavernier on the right flank and Goldson, Davies and King in the centre.

John Lundstram and Steven Davis start in midfield, with Ryan Kent and Malik Tillman playing in support of Morelos in attack.

Liverpool have Alisson in goal, and Konstatinos Tsimikas, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold in defence.

Captain Jordan Henderson is joined by Thiago Alcantara in the centre of midfield, while Diogo Jota, Luiz Diaz, Mohammed Salah and Darwin Nunez all play in attack.
