Fraser Aird has been axed by Cove Rangers after being seen making a w****r gesture towards Celtic fans during Sunday's Old Firm game.

The former Rangers winger was part of the away support at Celtic Park and television cameras showed him making the provocative gesture to the home support.

Aird's current club Cove Rangers, who play in League Two, have taken a dim view of the incident and distanced themselves from his actions, saying that they are terminating his contract days before it was due to expire.

“Cove Rangers FC is aware of an image which is circulating relating to one of our players at the recent Celtic v Rangers match," the club said.

“As a club we do not condone such behaviour and expect all of our players to represent our club in the correct manner at all times.

“Fraser Aird's contract with the club was due to expire at the start of January and as a result he will be leaving the club with immediate effect.”

The Canadian began his career at Ibrox and had spells at Falkirk, Dunfermline and Queen of the South before signing a short-term deal with Cove Rangers in September.
