It’s not the only bit of good news for Aberdeen after yesterday’s win for Nottingham Forest in the English Championship play-off final at Wembley, former Dons defender Scott McKenna’s promotion will earn his old club a £1m windfall.
The clause was written into the contract when Scotland regular McKenna was sold to Forest for a club-record fee of £3m two years ago.
The 25-year-old won the man of the match award after helping Forest back into the top-level of English football after a 23-year break.
