Hibernian have completed the signing of defender Niklas Gunnarsson until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old becomes the Easter Road club's second signing of the January transfer window after the capture of striker Chris Dagnall.

Gunnarsson, who spent time with Swedish side Elfsborg, forms part of Hibernian's efforts to win promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

He said: "I am very pleased to have signed and am looking forward to getting started.

"I know the team are in good form this season and hopefully I will be able to make the team and help us win promotion.

"I've been impressed with everything I've seen so far, from the city to the stadium and training centre, and am sure I will enjoy my time at Hibs."

Alan Stubbs told the club's wesbite: "I am delighted to have Niklas join the squad.

"We have been working hard on our January targets for a while now and its great to have the two new players in so early in the window. We wanted to bring in a defender and striker and have done so within the first week of January.

"They will both be strong additions to the squad and I expect them to contribute in the second half of the season.

"Niklas is strong and athletic and will provide valuable competition across the backline. He's comfortable on both sides and has played a good amount of football with Vlerenga and Elfsborg over the last couple of years, so will be able to hit the ground running."
