John Baird's early strike helped Falkirk move up to second in the Scottish Championship after a 1-0 win at bottom-of-the-table Alloa.

Baird scored the only goal of the game on the quarter of an hour mark as the Bairns claimed their fourth consecutive win and extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches.

Will Vaulks' shot was parried by Andy McNeil into the path of Baird and the well-travelled 30-year-old made no mistake with the follow-up, although his strike on the half-hour mark was well saved by Alloa goalkeeper Andy McNeil.

Robbie Crawford's effort tested Danny Rogers shortly before half-time but that was as close as the Wasps came throughout the 90 minutes.

Indeed, the visitors nearly doubled their advantage in time added on but substitute Kevin O'Hara and Vaulks were both denied superbly by McNeil.
