Widespread outages on Virgin Media’s network have being reported, leaving thousands across Scotland and the UK without internet access.
The outages have resulted in connectivity problems, and seem to have disrupted the internet service provider’s own website and DNS servers as well.
According to DownDetector and Is The Service Down?, problems appear to have begun at around 1.40am on Tuesday – racking up more than 22,000 complaints.
Virgin provided an update shortly after 8am, saying: “We’re aware of an issue that is affecting broadband services for Virgin Media customers as well as our contact centres.
“Our teams are currently working to identify and fix the problem as quickly as possible and we apologise to those customers affected.”
While the outage seems to have hit English customers the hardest, issues have also been reported in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee.
The latest reports from users having issues in Edinburgh come from postal codes EH1, EH11, EH6, EH12, EH4, EH7, EH16 and EH14.
The latest reports from users having issues in Glasgow come from postal codes G11, G5, G41, G42, G46, G61, G64 and G2.
The majority of complaints relate to landline internet and a quarter of customers are experiencing a complete outage.
A small proportion of customers are having issues with their TV streaming services.
