Administrators for Wilko have revealed the locations of 52 stores which will close after failing to secure a rescue deal for the whole business.
It includes two Scottish locations in Clydebank, where 22 people are employed, and Irvine, which has 16 employees.
The Irvine store will close on Tuesday, September 12, and the Clydebank store will close on Thursday, September 14.
PwC, appointed to oversee the insolvency last month, said it remains in talks with parties interested in buying the remaining parts of the business.
It comes a day after discount retail giant B&M agreed to acquire 51 Wilko stores from administrators for £13m.
PwC has held talks with a raft of suitors, including HMV owner Doug Putman, in order to save Wilko’s 400 stores and 12,500 jobs.
Administrators added on Wednesday that “it is possible that further store closures may regrettably be necessary”, depending on talks with remaining suitors.
But the announced closures starting next week will see 1,016 people lose their jobs through redundancies with almost 300 other losses at two distribution centres.
Joint administrator Edward Williams said: “In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary.
“We know this has been a deeply unsettling time for everyone concerned and would like to express our gratitude to all wilko team members for the dedication and support they have continued to give the business in the most trying of circumstances.”
It is understood that HMV owner Doug Putman is still in discussions with PwC over a possible deal to save a significant number of stores.
