Sixth prisoner dies in Scotland with suspected coronavirus

Scottish Prison Service confirms death of 65-year-old Alex Drysdale at HMP Perth.

An inmate at HMP Perth has become the sixth prisoner to die with suspected coronavirus in Scotland.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed the death of Alex Drysdale, 65, who was convicted at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in February.

Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.

The news comes a day after the SPS said George Greenshields, who was also a prisoner at HMP Perth, had died. He was convicted at Glasgow High Court in 1988.

The deaths of four prisoners confirmed last month are also thought to be linked to Covid-19.

The SPS said in a statement that Police Scotland has been informed of all the deaths and they will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
