A six-bedroom converted station house is up for sale in the Scottish Borders – and it comes with its own diesel train and a stretch of railway track.

Saughtree station in Newcastleton, Roxburghshire, is being listed online for £500,000, with prospective buyers also able to purchase the diesel locomotive, stretch of railway track and other rail components in addition to the house.

The diesel shunter includes two wagons and a guard’s van.

Savills is advertising the former station building, which dates back to 1867 and was converted for residential use in the 1990s by the current owner.

Property agent Andrew Thomson said: “This is one of the most unique properties I have come across.

“It must be one of the only properties available in recent years with an opportunity to also purchase a working private railway and diesel locomotive.”

The converted station house is set in an elevated position in the Liddlesdale Valley and is located right next to the Scotland/England border.

Savills say the old ticket office is situated up a small flight of steps from the main hallway and there are two further bedrooms and an en suite shower room.

The Savills website states: “There are two generous reception rooms, one of which is next to the kitchen and the other situated in the more modern part of the building which was finished around 2007.
