Scotland has recorded 44 new Covid deaths and 5545 cases of the virus overnight.

Figures released on Tuesday also showed that 2380 people who have recently tested positive for coronavirus are currently in hospital, just 21 short of Sunday’s record.

And, as of Monday, 24 of those were in intensive care.

The increase in the death toll means a total of 11,551 people in Scotland have died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Around 10.9% of the positive cases are reinfections.

The government’s daily figures also revealed that 4,364,117 people have now had at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, with 4,095,979 having had two doses and 3,455,971 people have received a third dose or booster jag.
