An 11-year-old girl has died in hospital a week after she was hit by a bin lorry in the Borders.

Elizabeth Bell from East Gordon was taken to hospital following the crash on the A6105 near a junction with a local road.

Emergency services were called at around 8.05am on Wednesday, January 31, and the schoolgirl was airlifted to the Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh.

Her condition was described as critical by medical staff before she died on Wednesday, January 7.

Police say enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Sergeant Dom Doyle said: “Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family and they have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are asking anyone who has not already spoken to officers and can assist with our investigation to get in touch.”
